Jeffrey Robert Moss is an Airline Transport Pilot,  Master CFI (MCFI), Gold Seal Certificated Flight Instructor holding Flight Instructor ratings for Airplane Single & Multiengine; Instrument Airplane. He is also an Advanced and Instrument Ground Instructor.  He serves the FAA Safety Team as a Lead Representative in the Southern California area.

Without a doubt, Jeff's passion is teaching single-pilot jet operations.  He holds single-pilot type ratings for the Hawker-Beechcraft Premier I / IA, Citation Mustang, Citation 525 series (CJ1, CJ2, CJ3) and the Eclipse 500.

He brings a very unique style to his teaching.  Jeff has traveled the world as an expert on ultra-long-haul passenger flying. He firmly believes that a good flight lesson starts with an excellent ground lesson.  He treats each lesson like an airline simulator session, where each student is briefed in the classroom on the day's tasks, taught a new theory or task and then the entire concept is taken to the cockpit.  Once learned on the flight deck, the day’s material is then thoroughly debriefed.

What students say about him:

"...During the past six months I have had the
pleasure of observing Jeff as a pilot, a strong
Cirrus advocate, and as an instrument instructor.
Currently I am receiving my instrument training
from him.  Jeff's understanding of the Cirrus and
its characteristics is complete, and his
knowledge of the Garmin 430,the Primary Flight
Display and the MFD is unequaled.  It has been
such a positive learning experience for me to
benefit from Jeff's highly organized and
disciplined approach to instrument flying.
He comes to each lesson (always ahead of time)
with a complete lesson plan, which we cover in
ground school and then execute in the plane.
His emphasis on checklist usage and Safety
should be used as a standard in the industry.
Jeff is unique.  Not only does he have a total
grasp of the airplane and its  avionics, but he
also has been given the wonderful and rare
talent of being able to teach.........
so few people have both...."

"I met J. Robert Moss in April 2003 when I
purchased my SR22.  It quickly became
apparent to me that safety is of paramount
importantance to Jeff.  As a result, he has
become my major instructor/mentor with
particular regard to the avionics in my plane.
As as instructor, I find Jeff to be highly
organized and has a special gift in explaining
the Garmin, its use, and relationship to the
primary flight display unit.  He always has an
objective that he explains prior to a flight.
We accomplish the objective and then critique
or debrief thse activities.  To date, I have heard
nothing other that highly complimentary remarks
regarding his training..."

Our partnership of three pilots acquired a
Lancair 400 last week through a private
purchase and posted a LOPA request for a
factory certified instructor to provide transition
training here in Ft. Lauderdale--
Jeff Moss answered the call.

Jeff provided us with outstanding instruction
which went above and beyond the call of duty.
He furnished us with our training materials
a week in advance of his arrival to ensure a
fast start. Classes over the four-day training
program began with ground school starting
promptly at 7:30 each morning and with the
flight instruction continuing on a rotating
basis until 7:00 or 8:00 at night. Happily,
all three of us completed the training on
schedule along with our Lancair 400 certification.

Jeff is both a Cirrus and Lancair certified
instructor so his experience with the
Garmin/Avidyne avionics is immense...Jeff's
instruction comes with a teaching style all his
own: humor, energy, and equanimity. He likes to
banter with ATC using British, Texas, and Indian
accents, sometimes, however, he loses track
which results in the Center having to contend
with the equivalent of Air India and Southwest
Airlines in the same exchange. He is unflappable.
He never once lost his patience throughout the
program with any of his fledglings.

...Obviously, Jeff is the go-to guy if you want
transition training. But what's more, he is a terrific
choice for re-current training. Some instructors
teach checkers; Jeff teaches chess. We can
recommend him wholeheartedly.

He is a true Lancair resource.

An Instructor’s instructor

I got a call Wednesday from J. Robert Moss
(“Jeff”). He said a couple years ago I had invited
him to give me a call if he ever made it to South
Florida and maybe we could fly together
(me and my big mouth!).

Anyway, we take off eastbound from N. Perry.
I turn west and get leveled off and put on the
foggles. Call Miami Approach, who identifies us
and gives us a heading of 180º. In the middle
of that turn I get a PFD failure
(the first I’ve seen on N1360C). I’m thinking
“That’s cool! I wonder how he did that??” Anyway
, we figure out that Jeff did NOT have anything
to do with it (unless it’s his aura or something)
Great opportunity now for a partial panel approach.

Anyway, I successfully grope my way through it,
arriving at localizer minimums in about the right
place. Whew! Once is enough so we go ahead
and land so the PFD can get its act together.

…Anyway, after getting fuel, I do one more
(full panel) ILS, and then Jeff takes it for the GPS
approach into N. Perry. He fails the PFD with the
breakers, and shows me how he sets it up fo
r partial panel…

This guy is good! I figure on a 1-10 scale of
Garmin familiarity I’m maybe an “8”. Most often I
can get the boxes to do what I want, but have
little built-in “pauses” as I make sure I’m
hitting/turning the correct button/knob.
Jeff does basically the same thing, but at
double my speed and without the pauses. Wow!

Anyway, I can at this point recommend Jeff as a
competent, energetic, skillful and personable
flight instructor (did I forget anything Jeff?).

Good Job!

After several years and numerous frustrations
finding a Professionl Flight Instructor that could
provide the systems and knowledge I needed to
operate my Airplane and Avionics effectively and
safely, I was referred to J Robert Moss.

Jeff is not only friendly and considerate but
extremely knowledgeable.  I have a 1998
Bonanza A36 with an MX20 GNS480 and a
KFC150 autopilot.  He showed me the way
to a very organized systematic approach
to putting it all "together."

Jeff is an asset to aviation and I would
strongly recommend him to anyone with a
need to become proficient with a high
performance airplane and modern avionics
panel...
